The Littles in the Grow Up coop are turning 7 weeks this week. Well, the Mystery Bin Girls (who are looking more and more like some variety of sex link, so I’m happy!) turned 7 yesterday.  The Australorps and Buff Orpingtons will hit theirs on Friday.

Moving to the Grow Up coop has made a huge difference in these chick’s lives.  They have more room to fly about and play, more to spread out. The last week and a half they spent in the brooder, I was seeing a lot of fighting, and some of the little roos were pecking and there were a few minor injuries, resulting in blood on the wood shavings.  NOT a happy thing.  But now, that all seems to have stopped.

I’ve gotten the opportunity to hold more of them and interact with them.  Some of the Buff Orpingtons are really, really cuddly and I am so sad it’s looking more and more like most of them are boys, because even the ones I’m mostly sure are roosters are cuddly and gentle.

In the next couple of weeks, we need to figure out how to split the run so the Littles can start going outside into the sunshine.  I’m thinking of a chicken tunnel, to keep them safe from both predators and the bigger chickens.  They won’t be ready to integrate for a few weeks yet.
